Environmental Responsibility

Environmental Responsibility

Rain CII is committed to minimizing our ecological impact on the earth and the communities in which we live and operate. First and foremost we are committed to operating our facilities in compliance with environmental permits and all applicable laws and regulations. Further we believe that in leading by example, we provide an opportunity for legislators and regulators to create sound policy to guide the environmental future of the petroleum coke calcining industry.

Our commitment to the environment is best evidenced in two of our principal programs:

The development of an Environmental Management System (EMS). The EMS requires study and monitoring of all aspects of our operations as they relate to the environment, so goals can be set and achieved to continuously improve our environmental performance.

Investments in operations redesign and equipment to intentionally reduce emissions. Rain CII is committed to lower environmental impact and improving environmental performance through physical and planning investments. Some of our more recent local investments include improvements to storm-water containment systems and air emissions monitoring at our production facilities.

On a global level, our investments in waste heat recovery make a proven contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the reduction of EPA criteria pollutants and carbon neutral energy cogeneration.

Environmentally Resourceful

From Refinery Byproduct to an Aluminum-Critical Form of Carbon

Rain CII processes petroleum coke, the nonhazardous solid carbon byproduct of oil refining. Our facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to safely convert petroleum coke to a high grade form of carbon essential for use by aluminum producers around the world. Our production of this product means aluminum’s lifestyle and environmental benefits are felt in all aspects of our lives.

Aluminum’s strong, lightweight, noncorrosive and electrically conductive properties allow for the airplanes we fly, many components of the automobiles we drive and the transmission lines that provide electricity to our homes and businesses. So significant is the growing use of aluminum in automobiles and lightweight trucks alone, that the aluminum industry is anticipated to reach carbon neutrality by 2025. Rain CII is proud to support this achievement.

Consider these important environmental facts about aluminum:

The increased presence of aluminum in automobile manufacturing has correspondingly reduced the amount of steel used, therefore making cars lighter. For the average automobile, aluminum removes 20kg of CO2 emissions and 300 gallons of gasoline.

Seventy percent of the aluminum ever produced is still in use, lowering the weight of autos, structures and transmission lines, reducing energy use and helping support a better environment.

Rain CII is committed to our partners in the aluminum industry, to our role in the bright and dynamic future of this critical resource and to our role as a resourceful, energy-conserving industrial material producer, community leader and energy recycler.

Rain CII is committed to achieving lower environmental impact, and to improving environmental performance through both physical and planning investments.
