GRAMERCY, LA – The fire at one of the two Calcined Coke Storage Domes at Rain CII Carbon’s Gramercy, LA plant has been extinguished since the morning of June 7th. Attention is still being paid to the smoldering areas. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported from the fire.
Rain CII Carbon LLC (Rain CII) is one of the leading producers of calcined petroleum coke (CPC). Rain CII has the capacity to produce more than 2.4 million tons of CPC annually, representing 10% of the world’s requirements for CPC. CPC is the source of carbon consumed in the production of aluminum and titanium dioxide the world over. Louisiana is the largest CPC producing region in the world outside of China, with Rain CII accounting for more than half of Louisiana’s CPC production.
