Robinson, IL – Maintenance Technician (Mechanic)

PURPOSE

Maintains mechanical performance for all plant equipment—including performing repairs, installations, operational inspections and participating in developing improvements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Works in a safe manner at all times, which requires adherence to safety polices, regulations, and standards.  Recognizes, assesses, and mitigates hazards.
  • Able to learn and understand environmental requirements and follow those requirements.
  • Performs repair-oriented activities on a daily basis, based upon immediate needs and maintenance scheduling.
  • Performs various types of welding, burning, cutting, fabrication, repairs and improvements to equipment throughout the plant.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance checks and services on all equipment.
  • Performs mechanical repairs on all plant equipment, facilities and grounds throughout the plant.
  • Performs minor electrical repairs as needed. May perform minor carpentry work in and around the plant.
  • Operates mobile equipment as required to perform maintenance work, to include but not limited to forklifts, manlifts, tractors, skidsteers, 10 wheel trucks, etc.
  • Reports any problems or safety issues to appropriate personnel.
  • May take a lead role in maintenance projects or oversee contract work.
  • Will be assigned as primary mechanic for specific equipment or areas of the plant.
  • Participates in the continuous improvement of product and plant processes and performs other duties as required.
  • Performs work from heights that require the use of fall protection.
  • Attends occasional maintenance oriented classes at various locations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Two years related training from college or vocational school; and/or one to two years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Machining or millwright background is preferred with the ability to utilize basic machinist’s tools such as: dial indicators, calipers, and micrometers.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, mechanical blueprints, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to present information to small groups. Must be versed in basic computer operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and use hands and/or fingers to handle or feel.  The employee is periodically required to sit, reach above shoulder height, stoop, kneel, crouch or squat, twist, crawl, drive (forklifts, loaders, or other vehicles), and climb ladders.  The employee is also required several times each week to climb and/or balance on flights of stairs of more than 25 steps.  The employee is periodically required to lift, push, or pull – up to 25 pounds periodically and occasionally up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Hearing protection is often required.  May be required to wear respiratory protection.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT

Maintenance personnel must hold a valid driver’s license.

AVAILABILITY

Maintenance personnel are required on a semi-set schedule to be on call and available for after-hours maintenance needs of the plant.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is periodically exposed to working in wet or humid non-weather conditions, working in high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or corrosive chemicals, extreme non-weather cold, extreme non-weather heat, and vibration.  The employee is also frequently exposed to working near mechanical and electrical processes, outdoor weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment may require hearing protection.
